Surpassing Joe Root’s century tally last week, Williamson achieved his 32nd Test century, now holding the highest among active players. Attaining this milestone in 172 innings, he also claimed the title of the quickest to 32 Test centuries by innings, surpassing Steve Smith, who accomplished the feat in 174 innings.

Williamson’s fifth century in the fourth innings of a Test match leveled him with the legendary Younis Khan for the most tons in the final innings. Notably, four out of his five fourth-innings centuries have occurred in successful run-chases, with his latest against South Africa joining the illustrious list.

In recent times, Kane Williamson has exhibited exceptional form, smashing eight centuries, including two double-hundreds, in his last 10 Test matches. Despite enduring a serious knee injury during the Indian Premier League that nearly threatened his spot in the World Cup squad, the 33-year-old made a triumphant comeback to Test cricket, showcasing his unyielding skill in the longest format.

A dip in Joe Root’s performance in July elevated Kane Williamson to the pinnacle of the ICC Men’s Test Batters’ Rankings, even though he was sidelined at the time.
